Children staying in the hospital may be cared for by a pediatric hospitalist. These physicians coordinate hospital care, communicating with patients' families, primary care providers and any needed specialists.

Pediatric hospitalists treat babies, children and teens who require inpatient care for infectious, respiratory or chronic conditions, including:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Dehydration
  • Influenza
  • Pneumonia and croup
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Other complex conditions
